Deepika is Bollywood's highest paid actress

Deepika Padukone is on cloud nine after delivering five back to back hits starting from ‘Cocktail’ to ‘Race 2’ and then ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, ‘Chennai Express’ and now ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’. Of course with kitty full of hit movies, she has come as the safest bet for the filmmakers.

Buzz is also that with so many hits, Deepika is industry’s best paid actress. Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “She can be counted in the hero’s league.”

Trade expert Amod Mehra says, “Deepika has come a long way from the days of her plain Jane avatar in her debut film ‘Om Shanti Om’. Today, she is a sex goddess. She has worked her way up. She should continue to work with big stars in woman-oriented films.”

Ramesh Taurani was given a lot of anguish by the dimpled actress, as she had threatened to walk out from his ‘Race 2’ citing stretched date issues. It was only when CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes Association) intervened that the actress agreed to be associated with the movie. At that time, Taurani had already shot a few scenes with Deepika and replacement of actress meant huge losses. He says, “She must be getting more money than her contemporaries. She has delivered four hits just this year. She is every filmmaker's first choice today.”

Deepika was charging about Rs. 3 crores per film but has revised her rates after the success of ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’.

Well, the success of Deepika in ‘Ram Leela’ hasn’t gone too well with other actresses. Kareena Kapoor was the first choice for this movie. After she turned down the offer, it was given to Deepika. Recently, Kareena said that she signed movies on her moods and has lost on a number of good directors. She further went on to tell that she was the only actress in Bollywood who could boast of giving other heroines her films. She of course meant Deepika.

Deepika has received praises from known faces in industry. Deepika said, “The biggest compliment which I got for ‘Ram-Leela’ was from Shekhar Kapur. I received a message from him which says that I have added so many layers to Leela that even Shakespeare didn’t think while writing for Juliet. For me, that’s the big compliment.” The actress further added, “All I can say is I am thankful to God and I am enjoying every moment of it. It is very overwhelming for me that ‘Ram-Leela’ is doing so well. It’s a perfect combination of what I ideally want for all my films, being critically acclaimed as well as doing well at the box office.”
