Kaabil vs Raees day 2: SRK-starrer has upper hand against Hrithik's film

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ and Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Kaabil’ are competing at the box-office for footfalls, and both the films have shown a growth in their collections on Day two, owing to the Republic Day holiday.

However, ‘Kaabil’ is at a bit of a disadvantageous position compared to ‘Raees’, due to the lesser number of screens and lowers distribution of shows.

‘Kaabil’, which got off to a decent start on Wednesday with opening day collection of Rs 10.43 crore, earned around Rs 14 crore on Thursday. The movie is expected to show further growth over the weekend. ‘Kaabil’ happens to be Hrithik’s fourth highest opening film, after ‘Bang Bang’, ‘Agneepath’ and ‘Krrish 3’.

On the other hand, ‘Raees’ has a clear advantage opening in 2700 screens, as against 2200 screens allocated to ‘Kaabil’. After an impressive opening amount of Rs. 20.42 crore, early estimates suggest a collection of Rs. 26 crore for ‘Raees’ on day two.

Indian film industry tracker Ramesh Bala posted the estimates of both the movies on Twitter. “#RaeesvsKaabil Day 2 Early Estimates: India Nett: #Raees – Rs. 26.5 Crs Total – Rs. 47 Crs #Kaabil – Rs. 16 Crs Total – Rs. 26.5 Crs,” he tweeted.

Individually, both the films are showing similar trends in growth. Meanwhile, ‘Kaabil’ has also been allowed to be screened in Pakistan, while ‘Raees’ is still awaiting an NOC from the government.

‘Raees’ stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khan opposite Shah Rukh. Directed by Rahul Dholakia, the crime drama is about a bootlegger named Raees Alam and tough cop, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is out to destroy Raees’ illegal trade.

‘Kaabil’ is a revenge thriller directed by Sanjay Gupta, in which Hrithik and Yami Gautam play blind couple, and Hrithik’s character avenges the death of his wife despite being visually challenged. His performance has been much appreciated in the film.
