Day 1 Box Office: Akshay Kumar’s ‘Padman’ earns Rs 10.26 crore

Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte starrer ‘Padman’ hits the theatres of Friday, 9th February and the the film opened with rave reviews and off to a decent start. On the first day, the film has garnered Rs 10.26 crore.

Senior film critic and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter account to share the figures. He wrote, “#PadMan has a DECENT start… Fri ? 10.26 cr… The biz, expectedly, picked up towards evening/night shows… The journey ahead is crucial… Sat + Sun should witness strong growth for a good weekend total… India biz.”

In the first weekend, the film is expected to earn 50 crore. The film has been released in 2750 screens in India and 600 screens abroad, summing to 3350 screens,

‘Padman’ is inspired from a real-life personality, Arunachalam Muruganantham who takes the biggest move towards menstrual hygiene by inventing low cost sanitary pad.

Akshay Kumar plays the role of Arunachalam Muruganantham in the fictionalized biopic. His character is named Lakshmikanth.

Radhika Apte, who plays Akshay’s wife goes against her husband’s move for health and hygiene. However, Lakshmikanth’s low morale was boosted by Sonam Kapoor, who plays the role of a teacher in the R. Balki directional.
