Danush wins paternity battle as court dismisses case filed by couple

Tamil actor Dhanush on Friday won the paternity battle against a Madurai-based elderly couple who claimed the ‘VIP’ actor to be their son. The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court dismissed the case after Dhanush filed a petition seeking to quash the proceedings in a judicial magistrate court in Melur on a case filed by the couple.

Danush stated that he was not their son and it was a ploy to extract money from him.

In November last year, the couple - R Kathiresan (65) and his wife Meenakshi (53), moved the magistrate court claiming that Dhanush was their biological son and demanded a monthly maintainence of Rs 65,000 from the actor.

They said that Dhanush’s real name was Kaliselvan, and he was born at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. He ran away from his hostel in Sivaganga district when he was in Class 11, and went to Chennai to pursue acting. The couple had produced a class X certificate and childhood photographs as evidence to support their claims.

They claimed that their son went to filmmaker Kasturi Raja and rechristened himself Dhanush Raja and the filmmaker adopted him after his cinematic success. They even pointed out identification marks, which were not found on Dhanuh when doctors examined him at the court premises in February.

Dhanush became a household name after his song ‘Kolaveri Di’ from Tamil film ‘3’ went viral in 2012. He also made his Bollywood debut with 2013 film ‘Raanjhanaa’ opposite Sonam Kapoor. He is the younger son of producer Kasthuri Raja and son-in-law if megastar Rajinikanth and is married to the ‘Kabali’ actor’s elder daughter, filmmaker Aishwarya.
