Dangal: Aamir Khan to attend wrestler Geeta Phogat’s wedding


Aamir Khan will be seen essaying the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, the father and coach of Indian women wrestling champions Geeta and Babita, in his upcoming release ‘Dangal’.

The wrestler and his daughters have also met the actor on the sets of the film when the shooting was going on. Now, as the film is gearing up for its release next month, Geeta Phogat is also gearing up for her wedding with wrestler Pawan Kumar.

The Phogat family has invited Aamir Khan to give his blessings to the 27-year-old Commonwealth Games gold-medalist on her wedding to be solemnised on November 20, according a report in Hindustan Times on Thursday.

The wedding will take place in Charkhi Dadri, situated about 15km from the Phogats’ family home in Haryana’s Balali village.

The to-be-bride’s father Mahavir told the daily, “I spoke to Aamir ji on Wednesday, and he will attend the wedding along with director Nitesh Tiwari. Tayaari bahut achi tarah chal rahi hai (Preparations are going on well). The Sangeet and Mehendi is on November 19.”

Mahavir was all praise for the ‘PK’ actor and said, “I have met Aamir ji around eight times. We used to spend six hours together talking about my life. He gives me a lot of respect. Aamir ji aur unki wife ne apne haath se daal ke khaana bhi khilaya hai (Aamir and his wife have also lovingly served food to us).”

While Aamir portrays Mahavir’s character in the film, newcomers Fatima Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra will be seen enacting the roles of Geeta and Babita, respectively. Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar will be seen as the younger versions of the girls in the film which also features Sakshi Tanwar in the role of their mother and Mahavir’s wife.

‘Dangal’ is slated to hit screens on December 23.
