Dadi, Gutthi of ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ get legal notice

Actor-comedians Ali Asgar and Sunil Grover who played Dadi and Gutthi respectively in now non-existent show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil, have been slapped with a legal notice by Colors TV.

Ali and Sunil are slated to perform at a live show called ‘Da-Bang’ by Salman Khan in Surat on February 19. The two comedians were supposed to appear in their ‘CNWK’ avatars as Dadi and Gutthi, but Colors has objected saying they cannot play the characters anywhere, reports Spotboye.com.

The producer of the show Brijesh Gadiali had told a section of the media that Ali and Sunil would be present in the event in their ‘CNWK’ avatars as Dadi and Gutthi respectively. Brijesh felt that Colors need not be approached for permission as the show is not supposed to be televised.

However, Colors channel which used to air the popular show, sent a legal notice to the two comedians stating that they can’t be performing in their ‘CNWK’ avatars in any event irrespective of whether those outings are aired or not.

"Dadi can't perform even as a normal lady with grey hair and a jooda. Gutthi can't even don ribbons. This is the kind of diktat that the legal notice spells out. The duo has been clearly told even a reflection of their CNWK avatars would tantamount to copyright infringement. It's both sad and funny," the report in the entertainment portal quoted a source as saying.

Kapil Sharma had a fall-out with Colors TV after he felt that another show on the channel had similar content like that of his own show and also had similar title - ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’. Kapil and his team eventually decided to wrap up their show, which was subsequently replaced by Krushna Abhishek's ‘Comedy Nights Live’.
