‘Daddy’ trailer: Arjun Rampal nails his look & mannerisms as Arun Gawli


Arjun Rampal released the trailer of his upcoming film ‘Daddy’ which depicts the true-life story of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli. Arjun essays the titular role of Gawali who is considered as Robinhood by the residents of his neighbourhood who lovingly call him 'Daddy'.

As per the trailer, the story is set in the 1970’s Bombay when the city’s textile mills were shutdown leaving millions of workers jobless leading to widespread hunger and hostility. Many of them were then drawn into the Mumbai underworld building their own gangs. One such gang leader is Arun whose life and journey is revisited in the film. The trailer sheds light on Arun’s many facets and goes on to show his rise as a politician and police’s relentless effort to bring him to book for his criminal activities.

The tall and handsome actor sports a never-seen-before avatar and has transformed his look and mannerisms to resemble the gangster-politician. The real Arun Gawli is currently incarcerated in prison on murder charges.

Arjun took to Twitter on last night to share the trailer of ‘Daddy’ and wrote, “The true story of a man who stopped at nothing. Here’s the much-awaited #DaddyTrailer @DaddyRealStory.”

A Marathi movie titled ‘Daagdi Chaawl’ has also been made on the life of Arun Gawli, in which Makarand Deshpande played the gangster-politician’s role.   

The upcoming biopic ‘Daddy’ has been directed by Ashim Ahluwalia and also stars Aishwarya Rajesh and Farhan Akhtar. The movie is slated to release on July 21.
