Confirmed! Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ to release on Jan 26, next year

The big box-office clash between Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ has finally been averted after much speculation. The release date of ‘Raees’ has been now pushed for early next year on the occasion of Republic Day.

The producers of ‘Raees’ – Shah Rukh, Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani made the announcement in a joint statement.

''It was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that this film is highly anticipated. However, a movie of such magnitude requires the appropriate showcasing and therefore, we have decided to shift our release date to 26th January 2017,'' the statement read.

Earlier, the makers of ‘Raees’ were contemplating at pitching the crime drama against either ‘Dishoom’ on July 29 or ‘Mohenjo Daro’ and ‘Rustom’ on August 12. They also considered Shah Rukh’s traditional release slot on the occasion of Diwali, but, Ajay Devgns ‘Shivaay’ and Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ are also scheduled for the same season. With all the holiday weekend this year already booked by A-listers, finding a suitable slot for ‘Raees’ was indeed a challenge.

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, ‘Raees’ is set against the backdrop of the 1980s crime scene of Gujarat. It is the story of a bootlegger whose business is thwarted by a tough policeman.

The film also stars Farhan Akhtar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who is making her Bollywood debut with the film.
