Confirmed! Big B to play Bhishma in mega project '‘Randamoozham’
Efforts to rope in Amitabh Bachchan to play the role of Bhishma in mega budget film ‘Randamoozham’ has been fruitful with the megastar locked in for the role, director Sreekumar has confirmed.
‘Randamoozham’ (The Second Turn), is a retelling of the Indian epic of Mahabharata from the perspective of Bhima, the second of the Pandava princes. The film is based on Jnanpith award winner M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s novel of the same title.
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has already been signed to play the role of Bhima and speculations were rife the Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will come onboard for the mega project, but Sreekumar has denied that the ‘Sarabjit’ actress is linked with the project.
The filmmaker added that Big B’s character will be same as mentioned in the book, because they have not taken any cinematic liberties. The rest of the cast are yet to be finalised. Sreekumar said the film will be in two parts with a budget of Rs 700 crore - Rs800 crore, thus making it the most expensive film to be made. It will be shot in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and English and dubbed in all Indian languages and some foreign languages.
Several academy award winning technicians will also be roped in for the film, shooting for which will begin by 2018 end. It is expected to be released by 2019 end or 2020, he added.
‘Randamoozham’ is the third collaboration of Mohanlal with Amitabh Bachchan. Both the actors have previously worked together in Major Ravi’s ‘Kandahar’ and Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Aag’, both of which were box office duds.
