Celebrity weddings to look forward to in 2016

Actress Asin Thottumkal tied the knot with her fiancé Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma last Tuesday, January 19 in an intimate ceremony in Delhi. The couple first got married as per Christian ritual followed by a Hindu ceremony at the Dusit Devarana resort. They will also host a reception in Mumbai on Saturday, January 23 for Asin’s Bollywood friends and colleagues.

A few days prior, veteran actor Kabir Bedi also got married to his long time partner Parveen Dusanj on January 15. The actor also celebrated his 70th birthday the next day with his close friends.

Here are some other celebrities who are expected to enter matrimony in 2016.

Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal

Television actor-couple Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal are set to tie the knot on January 25 in Goa in presence of close friends and family. The couple got officially engaged in a traditional ceremony on December 13, 2015. The duo first met in the 2008 series ‘Miley Jab Hum Tum’ and has been in a relationship since then.

Kishwer Merchant and Suyyash Rai

Television actors and ‘Bigg Boss 9’ contestants Kishwer Merchant and Suyyash Rai have been dating each other for almost five years. They had even announced their marriage plans and stated that they will tie the knot in February this year. But the couple has pushed ahead the wedding dates. During a live-chat with fans after his eviction from the reality show, Suyyash had said they will plan their wedding only after the dates for the BCL (Box Cricket League) are revealed.

Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande

Television star-turned-Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput will marry his ladylove actress Ankita Lokhande in December. The actors fell in love while working on Zee TV’s popular show ‘Pavitra Rishta’ and have been in a relationship for seven long years. The ‘Kai Po Che!’ actor confirmed the marriage date at the recently held Filmfare Awards pre-party.

Makrand Deshpande and Nivedita Pohankar

Theatre actor and director Makrand Deshpande who was also seen in Bollywood movies like ‘Swades’, ‘Satya’, ‘Makdee’ etc will enter into wedlock this year. Late last year, Makrand confirmed to Bombay Times that he will be settling down with his live-in partner and writer Nivedita Pohankar early in 2016. It is said that long ago, Makrand was engaged to Shashi Kapoor’s daughter Sanjana Kapoor who headed the Prithvi Theatre. He was also engaged to ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ actress Sonali Kulkarni.

TV actor Divyanka Tripathi aka Ishita Bhalla of popular series ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ got engaged to her co-star Vivek Dahiya who plays the role of ACP Abhishek in the series, on January 15. They had a traditional ‘roka’ ceremony in Chandigarh. A few close friends and family members were present on the occasion to bless the newly-engaged couple. In an interview to The Indian Express, Vivek said that their wedding will most likely happen by the end of this year and the wedding date would be decided by their parents.  

Bharti Singh and Harsh Harsh Limbachiyaa

Stand-up comedienne Bharti Singh who is reportedly dating Harsh Limbachiyaa, plans to settle down by the end of 2016. Harsh is the writer of several comedy shows on television. In an interview with Daily Bhaskar in December, 2015, Bharti revealed about her wedding plans and said, “...My parents want me to marry as soon as possible. However, I am planning to get settled at the end of 2016." Bharti and Harsh who is seven years younger to the laughterqueen, first worked together on Sony Entertainment’s show ‘Comedy Circus’. The couple also worked in Life OK’s ‘Comedy Classes’ and is currently working for Colors TV’s ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’.

Aman Verma and Vandana Lalwani

Actor and ‘Bigg Boss 9’ contestant Aman Verma got engaged to his long-time girlfriend Vandana Lalwani in an intimate ceremont at his Delhi residence on December 14, 2015. The couple plans to tie the knot by March this year. The wedding ceremony will also be a low-key affair with only close friends and family in attendance, but the couple will throw a grand reception in Mumbai afterwards. Vandana is also a television actress who has featured in television dramas like ‘Bitto’, ‘Kesariya Balam Aavo Hamare Des’, ‘Buddha’ and ‘Savdhaan India’. Aman and Vandana first met during their TV show ‘Shapath’ in which Vandana played the role of his on-screen sister.


Telugu superstar Prabhas who became an international star after the release of S.S. Rajamouli’s epic fiction ‘Baahubali: The beginning’, will enter matrimony this year. Confirming this, his uncle noted actor Krishnam Raju said that he has taken a promise from Prabhas that he will get married in 2016. The senior actor revealed that it will be an arranged marriage and the family is looking for a suitable girl for his young nephew. Prabhas is currently working on the second part of Rajamouli’s multilingual film, ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’. He will tie the knot once the film’s shooting is complete.

Pratyusha Banerjee and Rahul Raj Singh

Television actress and ex ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant Pratyusha Banerjee will tie the knot with beau actor-producer Rahul Raj Singh sometime this year. The couple have recently become quite open about their relationship, and have been spotted together hand-in-hand at various events and parties. Both of them belong to the same city, Jamshedpur. Pratyusha who was also seen as ‘Anandi’ in ‘Balika Vadhu’ first met Rahul at a common friend’s birthday party in 2013. They also participated in the reality show ‘Power Couple’.

Karishma Tanna and Upen Patel

Actors and former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestants Karishma Tanna and Upen Patel are set to tie the knot in 2016. Love blossomed between the two in season eight of the reality show and Upen confessed his love for Karishma. They also participated together in couple dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye 7’ and got engaged on the show. In an interview to Bollywood Life in July last year, Upen had said that they will get married sometime in 2016. The couple is currently hosting the reality show ‘Love School’ on MTV.

Sahil Mehta and Eesha Danait

Actor Sahil Mehta, who plays the lead role of Yuvraj Singh in the series ‘Suhani Si Ek Ladki’ on Star Plus', will get married to his long-time girlfriend Eesha Danait on May 1, 2016. The actor who was also seen in Bollywood romantic comedy ‘Love Express’ revealed about their wedding plans to a leading daily last year. Sahil and Eesha met on the sets of the 2011 film ‘Love Express’ and have been dating each other since then. Eesha is not an actress, but is related to the film industry.
