Celebrities who made it big from reality shows


Mumbai-based Harpreet Khatri who recently won the contest ‘Dance India Dance Super Moms 2’ has announced that she is looking forward to a career in Bollywood as a full-time choreographer. The 33-year-old also revealed that she will “grab whatever opportunity comes her way.”

Harpreet is one among the many reality show participants who have used this chance as their ticket to stardom in the entertainment industry. Several contestants from various reality shows are now well-known faces on the small screen and some on the silver screen as well.

The reality show ‘Dance India Dance (DID)’ was a major launch pad for many of the actors. Faisal Khan, who played the titular role of the young warrior prince in the historical series ‘Bharat Ka Veer Putra Maharana Pratap’ was a find from ‘DID Li’l Masters’ of which he was the winner. All of sixteen, the young lad will soon be seen again in another dance show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8’.  

The light-eyed Sumedh Mudgalkar who plays the negative character of ‘Yuvraj Sushim’ in ‘Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat’ being aired on Colors was among the finalists of ‘DID 4’ He got his first break as ‘Raghav’ in Channel V show ‘Dil Dosti Dance’.

Dancer-choreographer Dharmesh Yelande got noticed in ‘DID 2’ and went on to appear in Remo D’Souza’s dance centric blockbuster ‘ABCD: Any Body Can Dance’ and its sequel ‘ABCD 2’ which released recently and became the biggest opener of 2015 so far.

Raghav Juyal with his signature ‘slowmo’ dance style was also a participant of ‘DID 2’. He debuted in Bollywood with ‘Sonali Cable’ in 2014 and was also cast in Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘ABCD 2’.

Punit Pathak, co-contestant of Dharmesh and Raghav from ‘DID 2’ was also their co-actor in ‘ABCD 2’. On the small screen Punit was the choreographer-partner of TV actress Mouni Roy in ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7’ and Lauren Gotlieb, his co-actor in the ‘ABCD’ series, in season 6 of the show.

Another talent from the first season of ‘DID’, Rithvik Dhanjani went on to act television dramas like ‘Bandini’, ‘Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani’ and ‘Pavitra Rishta’. He also hosted other shows like ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Ja 5’, ‘Dare to Dance’, ‘Distraction’ and ‘Nach Baliye 6’. Rithvik is also co-hosting ‘Nach Baliye 7’ with Karan Patel.

The popular series on Zee TV ‘Hello Prathibha’ stars Binny Sharma who also appeared in ‘Sanjog Se Bani Sangini’. The woman in her 20s has been a participant of ‘DID 2’.

Besides ‘DID’, participants of the adventure reality show ‘MTV Roadies’, have also made a name for them in the industry. Winner of the show’s first season Rannvijay Singh was cast in supporting role in Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s ‘Action Replay’ and in ‘London Dreams’ alongside Salman Khan and AjayDevgn. He also worked in some Punjabi films and was the lead of television action drama ‘Pukaar’.

Ayushmann Khurrana who is an established name in Bollywood was winner of ‘MTV Roadies 2’. Ayushamnn made it big on the silver screen with Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Vicky Donor’ and as they say, rest is history!

Another popular face on television Vishal Karwal who is a trained commercial pilot, was a part of ‘MTV Roadies 4’. His worked in serials like ‘Bhagyavidhata’, ‘Rishton Se Badi Pratha’, ‘Dwarkadheesh- Shri Krishna’ and appeared as a negative character in ‘Jamai Raja’.

Other roadies turned actors include Subhi Mehta who appeared in ‘Chak De! India’, and ‘Aamras’ and also in teleseries ‘Bairi Piya’; Sahil Anand had a bit role in ‘Student of The Year’ and later appeared as a lead in ‘Babloo Happy Hai’; Shaleen Malhotra appeared in the title role in the action crime series ‘Arjun’.

Divyanka Tripathi who is winning the hearts of viewers as ‘Ishita Bhalla’ in Ekta Kapoor’s ‘Ye Hai Mohabbatein’ began her journey with talent hunt show ‘Zee Cinestar Ki Khoj’. She also appeared in ‘Banoo Mein Teri Dulhann’ and others.
