Celebrities who left us in 2014
The year saw the demise of many celebrities. Here are famous personalities who left us this year:
1.Ravi Chopra: Venerated for the TV series ‘Mahabharat’, the film maker passed on 12th November this year. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in October and later died at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
2.Sadashiv Amrapurkar: His demise was another sad news in the month of November. This actor made his debut with a Marathi film and won Filmfare Award for ‘Sadak’. He died of lung inflammation on 3rd November.
3. Uppalapu Srinivas: This mandolin maestro broke millions of hearts on 18th November, when his health deteriorated after a liver transplant. He took his last breath the very next day when his liver failed. His commendable work earned him the title of ‘Mozart of Classical Indian Music’. He was the one who introduced Mandolin, a western instrument, into Carnatic music.
4.Zohra Sehgal: This dynamic actress died at an age of 102, on 10th July. She was loved for her charming roles in ‘Sawariyaa’, ‘Cheenikum’, ‘Dil Se’ and even English movies such as ‘Bend It Like Beckham’. Her career continued for a whole 60 years, during which she worked with Prithvi Theatre and Indian People's Theatre Association(IPTA).
5.Sarat Pujari: A prominent figure in Oriya Film Industry (Ollywood), this actor made a significant contribution to the filmdom and won Jayadev Award of 1985, later winning Hemanta Das Kala Samman, 2011 and Orissa Cine Artist Association Award (2012). He died on 12th May due to cardiac arrest.
6.Nanda: The gorgeous actress was known for her work in Hindi, as well as Marathi films. Some of her prominent films were ‘Gumnaam’, ‘Neend Hamare Khwab Tumhare’, ‘Bedaag and Raja ‘Saab’, ‘Ittefaq’ and ‘Joru Ka Ghulam’; she won a Filmfare Award for ‘Aanchal’. She used to interact with only close family and a few friends and was seen after a very long time in 2010 for the screening of a Marathi film. She suffered a heart attack and passed away on 25th March 2014 in Mumbai.
7.Suchitra Sen: She passed away in the very beginning of the
year, on 17th January. She was awarded Padma Shree in 1972, but
disappointed fans by refusing to accept Dadasaheb Phalke Award in
2005 just to avoid public attention. In 2012, she was awarded Banga Bibhushan, the most prestigious award from
West Bengal government in 2012.The actress was admitted to the hospital in late
2013, and passed away due to lung infection.
