Box-office: Vidya Balan’s ‘Kahaani 2’ earns 4.25 cr on day 1


Vidya Balan starrer ‘Kahaani 2’ saw the light of the day on Friday and the film has earned Rs 4.25 crore on the opening day. The film was released at 1235 screens across the country. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh shared the numbers, ” #Kahaani2 Fri ? 4.25 cr [1235 screens]. India biz… Picked up in evening/night shows.”

After ‘Rock On 2’ and ‘Force 2’, ‘Kahaani 2’ is the third film in a row which is affected by demonetisation. ‘Kahaani 2’ registered 15-20% occupancy in the morning shows across India except Kolkata which shows 40 to 50 percent occuancy rate.

Meanwhile, Sujoy remains unaffected by PM Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move. “I don’t think demonetisation will affect my film. It’s all about priority so if people would really want to watch it, they will definitely go to theatres. It doesn’t matter if there is a currency problem in the country,” Sujoy Ghosh told media ahead of ‘Kahaani 2’ release.

“There are difficult times and something is always going on in the country so I think we shouldn’t give it a much thought. Many people have appreciated the trailer so I hope they will go to the theatres,” Sujoy added.

“Box office numbers are very important. It’s heartbreaking when a film doesn’t do well. I don’t really understand the business of cinema but all I want is more and more people to watch Kahaani 2. You put so much into it and that is what you ultimately want,” said Vidya Balan in an interview with indianexpress.com.

“When you want something, the universe conspires to get you that. Perhaps this kind of films veers towards me. I too get drawn to issues that are specific to women. And by doing then, I am also trying to realise my worth and value with every passing day,” she added.

‘Kahaani 2’, sequel to blockbuster film ‘Khaani’  features Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles.
