‘Padman’ is inspired from a real-life personality, Arunachalam Muruganantham who takes the biggest move towards menstrual hygiene by inventing low cost sanitary pad.

Akshay Kumar plays the role of Arunachalam Muruganantham in the fictionalized biopic. His character is named Lakshmikanth.

Radhika Apte, who plays Akshay’s wife goes against her husband’s move for health and hygiene. However, Lakshmikanth’s low morale was boosted by Sonam Kapoor, who plays the role of a teacher in the R. Balki directional.
