Box-office: ‘Naam Shabana’ mints Rs. 18.76 crore on opening weekend


Taapsee Pannu starrer ‘Naam Shabana’ has made a decent figure on its opening weekend at the box-office, despite witnessing a slow start. The espionage thriller did a business of Rs. 18.76 crore in three days.

The film, which released on March 31, saw an occupancy of 15 percent in the morning shows, but picked up later, managing an opening collection of Rs. 5.12 crore. On the next two days, i.e, Saturday and Sunday, the movie showed a slight jump minting Rs. 6.37 crore and Rs 6.37 crore respectively. With this, the opening weekend collection of ‘Naam Shabana’ stands at Rs. 18.76 crores at the domestic box-office.

Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the figures on his Twitter handle. “#NaamShabana is DECENT... Sat growth: 24.41%... Sun growth: 14.13%... Fri 5.12 cr, Sat 6.37 cr, Sun 7.27 cr. Total: ? 18.76 cr. India biz,” he tweeted.

The film has entered its first week today, and with no major Bollywood release in the coming weekend, ‘Naam Shabana’ is expected to see a decent run in theatres. According to early estimates, the film received above average occupancy on Monday morning.

The film opened in 2100 across India and in 354 screens overseas in 37 countries, including non-traditional markets. A report in Bollywood Hungama stated Sunday’s overseas box-office collection in Australia to be Rs. 1.93 lakhs from 14 screens, and Rs. 1.40 lakhs from four screens in the US.

‘Naam Shabana’ is a spin-off of Neeraj Pandey’s 2015 directorial ‘Baby’ which was a huge success. Neeraj has written the script and produced the film, while Shivam Nair has directed it. The film also stars Manoj Bajpayee and Prithhviraj Sukumaran, while Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and Danny Denzongpa reprise their roles from ‘Baby’ in extended cameos.
