Box-office: ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’ opens low; earns mere 1.75 cr


Meri Pyaari Bindu’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra got off to a slow start at the box office. It saw an occupancy of 15 per cent on day on opening day and earned a mere 1.75 crore.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh shared the opening day collection of the Yash Raj Films production on Twitter. “#MeriPyaariBindu Fri Rs 1.75 cr. India biz,” he wrote.

Meri Pyaari Bindu is made on a budget of Rs 22 crores with production cost amounting to Rs 15 crore, and seven crores for prints and advertising. Producer YRF claimed that the movie has covered Rs. 10 crore of the total budget by selling music, satellite and digital rights.

Meri Pyaari Bindu’ released with Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Sarkar 3’, and both the films are facing stiff competition from ‘Baahbali 2’ which released two weeks ago and is still going strong at theatres. While ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’ was released on 750 screens, the Ram Gopal Varma directorial was screened across 1425, but saw an occupancy of 10 percent, lower than ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’. However, it reportedly earned Rs 2.25 on day one.

Also, both the new releases havn't impressed the critics much.

Directed by Akshay Roy, ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’ narrates the bittersweet love story of a banker-turned-writer Abhimanyu Roy and an aspiring singer Bindu Shankar Narayanan. ‘Sarkar 3’ is the third instalment of RGV’s hit political thriller ‘Sarkar’ which first released in 2005.
