Box-office: Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ strikes gold, earns 25.25 cr on day one


Akshay Kumar is unstoppable. He turned out to be box-office king with back-to-back hits since 2015. With Reema Kagti’s ‘Gold’, he has again proved that he is the messiah of the ticket counter. The film opened with a bang and rave reviews and made an whopping 25.25 crores on the opening day.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the box office figures: "#Gold has an EXTRAORDINARY Day 1.. Takes a FAB START at plexes across major centres... Wed Rs 25.25 cr. India biz.." (sic).

It is Akshay Kumar’s highest opener ever.

The film clashed with John Abraham’s ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and it too done well with 20.52 crore opening day collection.

Being released on Independence Day, the film has got an advantage and the patriotic approach of the film clicked with the timing.

The film is based on the national game of our country, hockey. From 1936 to 1948, India played hockey for British India and when India got independence, Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar) an assistant manager determined to win Olympics gold for independent India. 

‘Gold’ is a story of a patriotic man who dreams to win gold for free India and finally his dream came true after 12 years but the path was not cakewalk. He had to cross many barriers to make India proud. Mouni Roy plays Akshay Kumar’s Bengali wife.

‘Gold’ directed by Reema Kagti stars Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh apart from Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy.
