Box-office: Aditya-Shraddha’s ‘OK Jaanu’ earns Rs 13.80 cr on 1st weekend
Bollywood’s first major release of the year, ‘OK Jaanu’ starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor opened on a decent note on Friday, but witnessed slow growth over the weekend. By the end of its three-day run in theatres, the romantic drama earned Rs 13.80 crore.
Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the day-wise box-office collection of the movie, while tweeting that the first ODI between India and England affected the its earnings on Sunday. “#OkJaanu saw limited growth... Affected on Sun due to cricket match... Fri 4.08 cr, Sat 4.90 cr, Sun 4.82 cr. Total: Rs 13.80 cr. India biz,” wrote Taran.
Besides the cricket match, Deepika Padukone’s highly awaited Hollywood debut flick ‘xXx: The Return of Xander Cage’, starring Vin Diesel, which released on Friday evening, also ate into its business.
Also, two big Telugu films – ‘Khaidi No. 150’, Chiranjeevi’s 150th film and his first in nearly a decade, and Nandamuri Balakrishna-starrer ‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’, also hit screens a day before. These films also hampered the business of ‘OK Jaanu’ to an extent.
Aditya and Shraddha previously gave the super-hit ‘Ashiqui 2’ in 2013. They paired up for the second time in ‘OK Jaanu’, which is the Hindi remake of Mani Ratnam’s 2015 Tamil blockbuster ‘O Kadal Kanmani’.
Directed by Shaad Ali, the film also starred Naseeruddin Shah and Leela Samson. The music by A. R. Rahman has been appreciated, but the film overall received mixed response from both critics and audience.
