Box-office: Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ mints Rs 155.53 cr in five days

Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’ which has garnered rave reviews form critics and is being equally loved by audience, is on a money-spinning spree at the box-office. After crossing the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in its first weekend, the movie continued its dream run on week days, and has already collected over Rs 150 crore.

The sports biopic which garnered Rs 106.95 crore by Sunday (including Tamil and Telugu versions), brought in Rs. 25. 48 crore on Monday and another Rs 23.07 crore on Tuesday. It’s day five total stands at Rs 155.53 crore. On Wednesday, i.e day six, the screenings started on an outstanding note and is expected to collect another Rs 20 crore or little more.

Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film’s collection. “#Dangal crosses ? 150 cr on Day 5 [Tue]… Now racing towards ? 200 cr… Continues its EXTRAORDINARY run on weekdays… India biz. #Dangal Fri 29.78 cr, Sat 34.82 cr, Sun 42.35 cr, Mon 25.48 cr, Tue 23.07 cr. Total: ? 155.53 cr. India biz. AWESOME!” he wrote.

Even internationally, the film is going strong. It has earned Rs 76.16 crores from overseas market. The film has collected Rs 22.76 crore, Rs 3.72 crore, Rs 18.20 crore, Rs 5.25 crore and Rs 3.59 crore in USA, Canada, Middle East, UK & Ireland and Australia respectively, according to Bollywood Hungama. Dangal also is also all time highest grosser in North America. The record was previously held by Aamir Khan’s film ‘Dhoom 3’.

‘Dangal’ has become the second highest grossing film of 2016, after Salman Khan’s ‘Sultal’. The film had even surpassed the opening weeked collection of ‘Sultan’, and has also also become the first film ever to have crossed the Rs 40 crore mark in a single day with its Sunday collection.

Aamir also thanked the audience for loving the film and tweeted, “Thank you for all the love and warmth, and thank you for owning our film. Love. Team Dangal.”

With no major films releasing in the coming weekends, ‘Dangal’ will enter the Rs 300 crore club soon.
