Box-office: Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ crosses Rs 400 cr worldwide

Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’ has been doing magic at the box office and looks like it will take over Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ to be the top grossing film of 2016.

The sports biopic has already crossed the Rs 400 crore in its worldwide collection, and in the domestic market, it was wee bit short of Rs 300 crore by its second weekend. The film minted Rs 270.47 crore in the domestic market, taking the total worldwide collection to Rs 412.07 crore.

Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures. He wrote, “#Dangal continues to take GIANT STRIDES… Crosses $ 20 million… OVERSEAS – Total till Sun, 1 Jan: $ 20.82 million [Rs 141.60 cr],” and added in another tweet, “#Dangal is SENSATIONAL in Weekend 2… [Week 2] Fri 18.59 cr, Sat 23.07 cr, Sun 31.27 cr. Total: ? 270.47 cr. India biz. FANTABULOUS!”

During its exceptional performance at the box office, ‘Dangal’ also broke some records. On its first Sunday, i.e, December 25, the film collected Rs 42.35 crore and became the first film ever to have crossed the Rs 40 crore mark in a single day. Then with a phenomenal figure of Rs 31.27 crore on its second Sunday, ‘Dangal’ yet again marked the highest collection on Day 10.

The movie has entered its second week and on day 11, (Jan 2), it was expected to net around Rs 13-14 crores. With no major releases in the coming days, crossing Rs 300 crore is a cakewalk for ‘Dangal’.

Aamir’s two years of waiting for his next film after ‘PK’ has definitely paid off.
