‘Bombay Velvet’ marks flop, earns 16 crore in the first weekend

Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ miserably fell flat at the box-office. The film has been marked as flop and now the makers will have tough time to recover the whopping production cost. The film earned Rs 5. 20 crore on the opening Friday and the collection was same on Saturday and on Sunday, it was even less closing the first weekend collection of ‘Bombay Velvet’ to only 16 crore.

Now the biggest fear is whether the Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor is losing his star power? With back to back flops, ‘Roy’, ‘Besharam’, Ranbir has registered his name in the list of flop actors. It proves that his selection of script is not apt. The biggest loser in this case is Fox Star Studios who have invested over Rs 100 crore in the period noir film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the pivotal role.

Anurag Kashyap’s masterpiece fails to impress the audience. The film’s third day collection is even lower compared to Ranbir’Kapoor starrer, ‘Besharam’.

Anurag Kashyap talks about ‘Bombay Velvet’ debacle. He said, "It's been a journey, as if one life is over with Bombay Velvet. A lot of people do not connect with it and a small number of people did. Maybe when the shock of the narrative wears down, you will revisit it in the calm of your homes and will get into it. Maybe our experimenting with the narrative didn't work for most but i firmly believe in the film. This is the film i wanted to make and i am glad i got to make it."

Anurag Kashyap thanked his crew, cast, and everyone else involved in the making of the cult movie.

He said, " none of you need to worry about me, we have survived so much, have been standing 22 years in the face of adversity and rejection. And I am still free with my choices. Bombay Velvet has been worth all the heart ache and pain and a memory to cherish for life. I love you all so much and i also feel all your love."
