Bombay Velvet: Ranbir, Anushka’s lip-locking scene axed

As time ticks for Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’ to see the light of the day, the censor board passed the film with U/A certificate but to get the clearance certificate, the director had to compromise with few scenes which he might not have done in normal situation. ‘Bombay Velvet’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma is a 100 crore budget film and on looking at the astounding budget, Anurag has chopped Ranbir and Anushka’s passionate lip-lock scene.

Censor Board has also raised objection over the use of two abusive words which was also axed by the director. Finally, after deleting all the objectionable scenes, the board passed the film with U/A certificate, eligible for every age group.

"He will have to snip out two cuss words — 'son of a bitch' and 'haramzada'. The members of the RC were far more open-minded than the EC, but even they felt that these two expletives were not suitable for an under-18 audience," a source said.

Anurag doesn't want any last minute hindrance and he chopped off the kissing scene, "The liplock is part of a passionate lovemaking scene between Ranbir and Anushka. The RC thought it was a little too bold for a film catering to a universal audience," adds the source.

CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani had in the past gave a briefing about what to include and what is objectionable in a film."He made a number of suggestions, much to the annoyance of the other members. But at the end of it, even the Bombay Velvet team went home relieved as they got the rating they wanted," the source concluded.
