Bollywood male actors who dared to bare for camera

Much is said and written about actresses wearing revealing outfits and showing off their assets, or their wardrobe malfunction, or going bold and shedding all for the camera. But male actors have also trodden the path and flaunted their hot bodies and dared to bare for photoshoots or for celluloid. This is not a new trend as 1966 film ‘Phool Aur Phatar saw a shirtless Dharmendra wooing Meena Kumari. Late actor Feroz Khan also sported swimming trunks in 'Apradh' (1972), so did Jackie Shroff in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Rangeela’.

Let’s check out some more male actors of Bollywood who went semi-nude for the screen in recent times.

Superstar Salman Khan is known for taking of his shirt and has also sported shorts. But for his wrestling-based film ‘Sultan’, the actor wore only a tiny ‘langot’ for the fight scenes. Salman was initially very shy of wearing it and he himself admitted the he felt “violated” while walking out in a ‘langot’ on the sets of the film.

Salman’s buddy Randeep Hooda also sported the tiny…tinier ‘langot’ in Omung Kumar-directed biopic ‘Sarabjit’. Randeep is not new to shedding clothes. The actor has posed semi-nude with just a white sheet over his waist for Stardust magazine cover last year. He also shot for some bold scenes in Ketan Mehta’s ‘Rang Rasiya’.

John Abraham appeared nude in a heart-wrenching scene in Kabir Khan’s ‘New York’ when his character was taken into custody by the FBI and kept locked inside a box. The scene was shot in semi-darkness. But John showed a good part of his well-toned derriere in yellow trunks in a song sequence in Dostana. In his upcoming film ‘Dishoom’ as well, John will be seen clad only in his briefs, along with his co-star Varun Dhawan.

Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan created quite a stir when he appeared nude in his blockbuster ‘PK’. He was stark naked with only a tape-recorder to cover his modesty. The film’s poster featuring Aamir in semi-nude stare created a controversy with a lawyer filing an obscenity case against the actor. A politician also termed the poster “distasteful and against Indian culture," and ‘dressed-up’ a cut-out of Aamir’s semi-nude poster.

In Madhur Bhandarkar’s 2009 film ‘Jail’, Neil Nitin Mukesh had a full frontal nude scene in a torture sequence where his character was being strip-searched by cops. The film didn’t do very well, but Neil proved that he can go to any length to get under the skin of his character.

In his debut movie ‘Saawariya’, Ranbir Kapoor did a whole dance sequence in a towel. In a scene, he unties the towel and stands before the camera with his back, exposing his bare butt. He had the guts to shed in his very first film itself. While, the film didn’t perform well, Ranbir’s towel dance became famous.

In Hansal Mehta’s 2013 biographical film ‘Shahid’, Rajkumar Rao played the role of slain rights activist and lawyer Shahid Azmi. The ‘Kai Po Che’ actor appeared stark naked in a jail sequence. Rajkumar bagged the National Film Award for his performance in the movie.

Model-actor Milind Soman, who created a controversy by posing nude for a print advertisement back in 1995, bared himself for a scene in Indo-German-French collaboration film ‘Valley of Flowers’ (2006).
