Bollywood couples going strong years after marriage


In these three months of 2016, many a celebrity couple have broken up. First it was Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif; then came news that Farhan Akhtar and Adhuna Bhabani have ended their 16 years’ marriage. Soon cricketer Virat Kohli’s split with Anushka Sharma started making news. Recently, Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan also announced that they have separated. Close-on-the-heels surfaced reports of Sushant Singh Rajput and girlfriend Ankita Lokhande calling off their long time relationship.

Amidst all these unpleasant break-up reports, there are some charming Bollywood couples who married for love and weathered the storm in their lives to remain together. They have proved that love transcends everything else and establish our faith in the beautiful relationship.

Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s relationship is one of the most talked about. The couple fell in love when Jaya was an established star while Big B was still a struggling actor. They tied the knot in June 1973 has been married for 42 years now. Their marriage hit a rough patch when Rekha walked into Amitabh Bachchan’s life. But they came out of the troubled times and emerged stronger together. 

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri’s marriage is stuff fairy tales are made of. King Khan and Gauri got married after a lot of struggles due to their religious differences and Shah Rukh’s unstable career at that point of time. The couple has three kids – Aryaan, Suhana and AbRam. There were rumours about an affair between Shah Rukh and his ‘Don’ co-star Priyanka Chopra, but the couple stuck together and are as loving as ever.

Ajay Devgn and Kajol are of contrasting personalities, but love blossomed between them when the were working together for 1995 film ‘Hulchul’.  The couple got married after a courtship of four years and are still going strong. A popular magazine once did and elaborate story on Ajay’s alleged affair with his ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ co-star Kangana Ranaut. But they did not let this affect their marriage. Both are proud parents of two kids – dayghter Nysa and son Yug.

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna are one of the best looking Bollywood couples. It came as a surprise when the two got married in a low-key ceremony in 2001. Akshay, the hunk was said to be a lover boy and was allegedly had affairs with his heroines from Shilpa Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Priyanka Chopra and others. But he ultimately found his soulmate in the gorgeous Twinkle. Their love, support and respect for each other has made their relationship stronger. Akshay is a loving husband and a doting father to their kids Aarav and Nitara.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will soon complete nine years of their marriage. Oprah Winfrey of the popular talk show even called the golden couple of Bollywood more famous than Hollywood’s Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The duo became good friends while working together for their films ‘Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke’ and ‘Kuch Naa Kaho’ when Aishwarya was in a relationship with Salman Khan and Abhishek was engaged to Karishma Kapoor. Abhishek’s engagement broke off, while Aishwarya broke-up with Salman and got involved with Vivek Oberoi, but their relationship did not last long. Aishawarya and Abhishek’s friendship culminated to love while they were working for ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Guru’ and ‘Dhoom 2’. The tied the knot in 2007 and today are a happy couple and proud parents of four-year-old daughter Aaradhya.

Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza make for a cute and lovely couple. The two met on the sets of their debut Bollywood film ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’. They became good friends and gradually their fondness for each other grew and before they could realise, cupid struck them. The courted for nine long years and eventually tied the knot in February, 2012. The couple welcomed their son Riaan in November, 2014 and a second child is on the way. Being from non-filmy background, Riteish and Genelia never opened up about their relationship during their courtship period. And interestingly, none of them had any link-up controversy with any of their co-stars that is so common with other celebrities in the showbiz world.
