Bollywood actresses who quit movies after marriage


Bollywood actress Preity Zinta who was last seen in 2013 film ‘Ishkq In Paris’ is set to make a comeback with Neeraj Pathak’s directorial ‘Bhaiyaji Superhit’. The dimpled beauty who married her American boyfriend Gene Goodenough in February this year, returned to the country in April and resumed shooting for the film which was announced four years ago.

While marriage is no longer an impediment for actresses to pursue their careers successfully post marriage, there are some talented artistes who have opted to quit acting after tying the knot. Let’s check out some of those actresses:

Asin Thottumkal: The Malayalam beauty who debuted in Bollywood with 2008 film ‘Ghajini’ opposite Aamir Khan, got married to Micromax co-founder and CEO Rahul Sharma in January, 2016. She was introduced to Rahul by Akshay Kumar with whom she starred in ‘Housefull 2’ and ‘Khiladi 786’. She wrapped up all her acting assignments before marriage and had announced that she will be taking a break for some post marriage. The actress also reiterated her decision of not taking up any assignments, a few months after her wedding. Asin was last seen in 2015 film ‘All Is Well’ opposite Abhishek Bachchan.

Twinkle Khanna: Daughter of late superstar Rajesh Khanna and the gorgeous Dimple Kapadia, made her Bollywood debut with ‘Barsaat’ and bagged the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for her role. The actress quit acting post her marriage to Akshay Kumar in January 2001. She now works as an interior designer and a newspaper columnist. She is also a producer and has co-produced films like ‘Tees Maar Khan’, ‘Thank You’ and ‘Khiladi 786’ which starred her husband Akshay. She is a mother of two kids – son Aarav and daughter Nitara.

Namrata Shirodkar: The former Miss India is known for her films like ‘Vaastav: The Reality’, ‘Pukar’, ‘Dil Vil Pyar Vyar’ and ‘Bride And Prejudice’ among others. She has also starred in regional films. Namrata married Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu in 2005 after dating him for a few years. The duo fell in love while filming Telugu film ‘Vamsi’. The couple has two kids – son Gowtham Krishna Gattamaneni and daughter Sitara. Namrata now leads a blissful life with her family in Hyderabad.

Gayatri Joshi: After featuring in several commercials and her only Bollywood film ‘Swades’ opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi was never again seen on the silver screen. She had the perfect Indian looks and decent acting skills to be the next big thing in Bollywood. But the beautiful actress married Vikas Oberoi, Managing Director of Oberoi Constructions, in 2005 and quit acting for good. She is now a proud mother of two sons with Vikas.

Meenakshi Seshadri: The former beauty queen gained immense recognition with Subhash Ghai’s 1983 blockbuster ‘Hero’. Known for her movies like ‘Damini’, ‘Ghayal’, ‘Toofan’ and several others, Meenakshi bid adieu to the world of showbiz for good in 1996 after marrying investment banker Harish Mysore. She now lives in Texas, US with her husband and two kids - daughter Kendra and son Josh. Trained in classical dance forms Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak and Odissi, she now teaches dance to students in the US and performs at charity events.
