Bipasha Basu opens up on being Karan Singh Grover’s ‘third wife’

Bollywood actors Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover tied the knot on April 30 in a grand ceremony followed by a star-studded reception. Bipasha became bride in real life for the first time, while it was the third marriage for the ‘Hate Story 3’ actor.

Karan was first married to television actress (now fashion designer) Shraddha Nigam in December 2008, but they divorced within 10 months. Thereafter, Karan went on to marry his ‘Dil Mil Gaye’ co-star Jennifer Winget in 2012, but the couple separated after two years. Their divorce came through only earlier this year. Both his ex-wives allegedly left him due to his philandering ways.

Obviously, there were speculations that their marriage too may not survive and end up in a divorce. However, Bipasha isn’t bothered about it and it doesn’t affect her if she is her husband’s third wife.

In her first interview post marriage to a leading national daily, the ‘Jism’ actress said, “It didn't bother me and we spoke about it. I believe that everyone has a journey, and it is very easy for anyone to exclaim, ‘Oh...this is his third marriage, nahin chalega... divorce ho jaayega.’ I tell people that you have to be in someone's shoes to know their story and understand their journey.

“This world is full of cynics, and thankfully, I have never been cynical no matter what has happened in my life. I have always been a believer. And Karan is like that, too. I feel I am lucky, as I live only for love. And no man has given me more love and respect than Karan. I might not be looking for the same thing in marriage, like others do. I have my own checklist, and I have ticked my boxes accordingly. And I believe you can't judge anyone for their bad relationships. I have had bad relationships, and I could have been easily married twice. The relationship could have been as deep, but I didn't fall into the legality and that is the only difference. You can't condemn someone on the basis of a piece of paper,” Bipasha told the daily.

She also said that for her as a woman, the connect is more important, while the paper (marriage certificate) is important to society.

Karan and Bipasha fell in love while working together in Karan’s debut film ‘Alone’. The couple dated each other for two years before taking the plunge, followed by a long honeymoon in the Maldives and the US.
