Vipul Shah, the director of AANKHEN, is all geared up to embark on his new film project, WAQT – THE RACE AGAINST TIME, on Monday, November 24 at Mumbai's Juhu Beach [behind Horizon Hotel]. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, the film will be produced by Blockbuster Movie Entertainers and presented by Manmohan Shetty, Kishore Lulla and Sunil Lulla. “It's a story of a father and a son,” Vipul Shah tell me, “It's a completely emotional film and I am sure, it will be identified by every father and son not just in our country, but throughout the world.” Amitabh and Akshay will enact the characters, respectively.

Vipul has grand plans up his sleeve for the mahurat of the film. A podium would be erected right in the middle of the beach and what will follow has never been witnessed at mahurat ceremonies before.

The mahurat will begin with an audio visual presentation hosted by none other than Priyanka Chopra herself. Thereafter, Amitabh, Akshay and Priyanka will present a live performance on stage [Vipul doesn't want to make the details public before the mahurat]. “I've chosen this location in particular only because I want the common man to witness and be a part of the mahurat of a Hindi film,” Vipul enlightens further.

The mahurat ceremony will be held between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. IST, followed by a get-together for an august gathering at a suburban hotel. It only means that Vipul wants as many spectators to view the mahurat so that the message he intends conveying through his film could reach out at one go.

While an actress [to enact the role of Bachchan's wife in the film] is under finalisation, the film will have music by Anu Malik and cinematography by Santosh Thundiyil [KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI, PINJAR].

“It wasn't tough getting Amit-ji and Akshay for this project. During the making of AANKHEN itself, we had decided to work with each other. I narrated the script of WAQT in August and we are all set to roll in November, which indicates that they are eager to start work on the film,” Vipul adds.

The shooting will begin in January/February 2004 and will be completed by August 2004.
