‘Bhoot’ actress Barkha Madan becomes a nun, but turns up to promote her film

A spirited personality who played a spirit in her most successful film ultimately turned to spiritualism.

Actress Barkha Madan who played the role of a ghost in Ram Gopal Verma directorial hit film ‘Bhoot’ starring Urmila Matondkar and Ajay Devgn, decided to quit her acting career and lead a simple life as a nun after being captivated by the ideologies of the Dalai Lama.

As per Buddhist traditions, the actress tonsured her beautiful tresses and adopted the name Ven. Gyalten Samsen. It was an important and right decision, Barkha said and added she is supremely content. She spends most of her time working for the kids and the rest of the time she meditates. She said she wanted to start a school for nuns.

However, it appears that there were some unfinished tasks for which she had to return for some time. Before renouncing the world, Barkha had produced a film ‘Surkhaab’ which was screened at various film festivals and won awards in the US and Cannada. The actress-turned-nun came to promote her film which released after one and half years on May 22.

The story of ‘Surkhaab’ is about illegal immigration and human trafficking. Brakha played the lead role of a judo gold medallist in the movie.

Barkha was a Miss India finalist in 1994 along with Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai and Shwetha Menon. She made her Bollywood debut in 1996 in the Akshay Kumar and Rekha starrer ‘Khiladiyon Ke Khiladi.’ She also played the lead in the Indo-Dutch movie ‘Driving Miss Palmen’. She also appeared as Devika in the Sahara One teleseries ‘Ghar Ek Sapna’ that was aired during 2007 – 2009 and worked in numerous others and hosted TV shows.

Barkha also started a production company and made two films with her in the lead – ‘Soch Lo’ in 2010 and ‘Surkhaab’ in 2012, before becoming a nun.
