Bengali actress Payel Chakraborty found dead in a Siliguri hotel

On Wednesday evening, Bengali television actress Payel Chakraborty was found dead in a hotel room in Siliguri in a mysterious circumstance. Payel checked the hotel on Tuesday and she was supposed to travel to Gangtok, Sikkim the next day.

Police suspect suicide but they will thoroughly investigate the case. Payel was found dead in a hotel room when a hotel staff knocked her door and when there was no response after repeated knock, they called up the police. When police broke the door, they found her dead. Payel's body was sent for the post mortem.

Arun Deb, a hotel staff said that the actor had told that she would be leaving for Gangtok the next day.

"Chakraborty, after checking in, had categorically told the hotel officials that she did want to be disturbed in her room. She had locked the room from inside and did not order dinner," said Mr Deb.

It was said that 36-year-old actress was depressed. Recently, she separated from her husband and has a son. 

Her parents was informed and they left for Siliguri.

Payel Chakraborty starred in Bengali TV shows like "Chokher Tara Tui" and "Goenda Ginni" and had recently moved to movies.

Chakraborty's father Prabir Guha has stated that she was suffering from mental stress. 

"Prime facie, it looks like a case of suicide, but the police are not ruling out other possibilities," said senior Siliguri police officer Gourab Lal.
