‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ vs ‘Baahubali’ – Who’ll win the box office race?


S S Rajamouli’s epic drama ‘Baahubali – The Beginning’ and Kabir Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ starring superstar Salman Khan have shattered all records at the box-office. Both the films have been written by the same man, Rajamouli’s father – K V Vijayendra Prasad.

‘Baahubali’ released on July 10 while ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ hit theatres a week later on July 17.

The collections of the two mega blockbusters have left all other previous high box office scorers far behind and made the coveted Rs 100 crore club a passé. ‘Baahubali’ with its stunning visuals had made Rs 300 crore within nine days of its release. On the other hand, the heart-warming story of ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ fetched it a little over Rs 169 crore by sixth day of its release.

Prabhas and Rana Dagubbati starrer multilingual movie was released in 4,200 screens across the globe. It raked in an incredible Rs 50 crore on its opening in the domestic market. The movie made in Telugu, Tamil, Malyalam, Hindi, English did brisk business internationally. It went on to smash old records and make new ones at the box office. By the sixth day of its release, the movie’s global collection stood at Rs 235 gross.

‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ on the other hand released in 5000 screens world-wide and minted Rs 27.25 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day. The film earned Rs 36.6 crore on Saturday followed by Rs 38.75 crore on Sunday. By July 22, the sixth day of its release, it had collected a total of Rs 169.07 till sixth day.

From overseas market another Rs 69.05 crore came in till Tuesday, taking the total global collection to Rs 238.12 crore.

While ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ is behind ‘Baahubali’ as far as the total collections till date are concerned, it has beaten the six-day worldwide earnings of ‘Baahubali’, albeit by a small Margin. Now it’s to see if and when ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ catches up with ‘Baahubali’s Rs 300 crore.
