Big B, Ash, Abhi collectively paid 53 crore tax

Mr Amitabh Bachchan is undoubtedly the biggest star of Bollywood. For over forty decades this stalwart of Indian cinema has had an immense fan following. Even at the age of seventy, Mr Bachchan does not cease to amaze us with his extraordinary acting skills, his booming baritone and his classy appearance.

However, Mr Amitabh Bachchan is loved and revered not only as an actor but also as a great human being. The “Shahenshah” of Bollywood, as he is affectionately addressed by his fans has always been amongst the few Bollywood stars who have always made sure of doing their bit for the society.

Mr Bachchan has always given priority to his social responsibilities and has always fulfilled them in different ways and forms - sometimes by donating thirty lakhs to the farmers for repaying their loans or by being a part of “Give India”- an online charitable portal.

Recently the Bachchan family has once again kept a wonderful instance by becoming the highest tax payer for the year 2013. Mr Amitabh Bachchan along with his actor son Abhishek and her daughter in law Aishwarya has collectively paid 53 Cr, toppling all the three Khans and Akshay Kumar.

In the month of March Mr Bachchan was declared to be the highest individual tax payer for the year 2012-2013, paying 21cr. At that time it was contemplated that Big B would end up paying around 31 cr as tax. The income tax department was completely overwhelmed and even went ahead and congratulated the star.

In a country like India most of us are completely crazy about movies and look up to these celebrities as role models. This in fact puts a certain onus on the stars to take up certain responsibilities- to express it in terms of the friendly neighbourhood spider man “ with great power comes great responsibilities”. Although our Indian celebrities enjoy great power most of them are somewhat reluctant to shoulder the responsibilities that come with it. In fact some of them consider themselves to be over and above any law and does not disdain from brazenly flouting them in the open. However Mr Bachchan and his family has surely been a delightful exception and one can only hope that others would also follow suit. Way to go BIG B.
