‘Baahubali’ mints a phenomenal amount of Rs 60 cr on opening day

Tollywood filmmaker S S Rajamouli’s multi-lingual epic film ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, has made a remarkable beginning by gathering approximately Rs 60 crore on the first day of its release worldwide.

"It's a phenomenal start. Early estimate suggests that the film has grossed about Rs.60 crore on release day worldwide. This way, it may even reach the Rs 100 crore club over the weekend," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

In US alone, Baahubali collected a whopping Rs 15 crore. The film released in over 4,000 screens in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam.

"The Telugu version did extremely well. The Tamil and Hindi versions did decent business too. In Kerala, since the film managed to release in only 50 screens, it couldn't open big," said Trinath.

Filmmaker Karan Johar who has purchased the Hindi rights of the film was elated with the response the film received on the first day of its release. The Dharma Productions honcho was all praise for Rajamouli and called him the “man of the moment.”

“Unanimous critical acclaim and applause from across the country!! @ssrajamouli is the man of the moment and beyond…#Baahubali,” 43-year-old Karan tweeted.

‘Baahubali’ is touted to be the most expensive film ever made in India at Rs 265 crore. The film stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannah Bhatia, Nasser and Ramya Krishnan in the lead roles.

Produced by Arka Media Works, the mega film is about the fight between two brothers for a kingdom.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also said the film created history with its phenomenal business. He posted a couple of tweets. “#Baahubali creates HISTORY. Records HIGHEST EVER Day 1 biz in *all versions*: ? 50 cr. India biz. PHENOMENAL. UNPRECEDENTED.” “#Baahubali [Hindi] Fri ? 5.15 cr. India biz. HIGHEST biz for a *dubbed movie in Hindi*. FANTASTIC!”
