'Baa' of ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ Sudha Shivpuri dies at 78


Sudha Shivpuri, popularly known as the Baa of Indian television passes away on Wednesday morning. She was 78. The last rite of the noted actress will take place at Oshiwara Crematorium, Mumbai, at 2.30 pm on Wednesday. 

She was unwell for quite sometime and finally breathed her last on Wednesday morning. She suffered stroke on Dec 2, 2013 and was admitted in a hospital for six months.She regained her health but was not keeping well.

Sudha Shivpuri, wife of veteran actor Om Shivpuri started her career at a very young age to support her family. She married Om Shivpuri at the age of 31 and the married couple formed a theatre company of their own, Dishantar. She enacted in many plays at Dishantar.

Sudha Shivpuri debuted in Bollywood with Basu Chatterjee's Swami in 1977  and later starred in films like Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Hamari Bahu Alka, Sawan Ko Aane Do, Sun Meri Laila, Burning Train, Vidhaata and Maya Memsaab.

After the death of her actor husband in 1990, she took up television and acted in soaps like Aa Bail Mujhe Maar, Rajni, Missing, Rishtey, Sarhadein and Bandhan and Ekta Kapoor's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2000,

She is survived by her daughter and son. Smriti Irani aka Tulsi of 'Kunki Saas....' expressed grief over the death of Shivpuri. "She was like mother figure to me," Smriti Irani was quoted as saying.
