'BA Pass' actress Shikha Joshi commits suicide by slitting throat

40-year-old ‘BA Pass’ actress Shikha Joshi commits suicide at her residence in Mumbai around 6pm in the evening.  She slit her throat with a knife inside washroom. She was pronounced dead at Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri. The incident took place at her MHADA flat in Versova on Sunday evening where she stays with her friend. Police registered case of suicide.

Though the exact reason of the suicide is not yet confirmed, the actress is said to have taken this drastic step due to unemployment.

DCP Satya Narayan Chaudhry, said, "The incident took place at around 6 pm. Joshi would stay in the flat with her friend. She went into the bathroom and slit her throat open using a sharp object. When she did not open the door for a long time, her friend knocked on the door and Joshi opened it. However, she collapsed immediately due to excessive bleeding."

Later, the body was sent to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem.

Ravindranath Pawar, senior inspector, Versova police station said, “Shikha had three small marks and a a big mark on her neck. The smaller marks indicate her first attempts at committing suicide. They also show that a person gets cold feet at the last minute before finally committing the act. Had she been attacked by someone with a knife, there would be only one long cut. The nature of the cuts on the neck makes us believe that this is a suicide.”

On November 10, 2013, Shikha Joshi filed molestation case against cosmetic surgeon Dr Vijay Sharma in Andheri. She along with her brother pelted stone at the doctor’s residence and she was also arrested for the incident.

Senior police inspector Ravindranath Pawar, said, "We have not found any suicide note. The kitchen knife used in the crime has been seized. She was staying with her friend, Madhu Bharti, whose statement is being recorded. Bharti was staying with Joshi for the last two months. Prima facie, it seems that Joshi took the extreme step due to frustration."

The model-actress Joshi is survived by her 19-year-old daughter who stays with her grandparents in Delhi.  Joshi's brother arrived in Mumbai to claim the body.
