Azharuddin biopic: Cast for Sangeeta Bijlan’s role remains a suspense

Filmmaker Anthony D’Souza has put to rest any speculation regarding the role of model-turned actress Sangeeta Bijlani in his biopic on former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, saying the cast for the role hasn’t been finalized yet.

Till some time ago, rumors were doing the rounds that Kareena Kapoor Khan would essay the role of the yesteryear actress, and then Jacqueline Fernandez’s name cropped up when Kareena reportedly left the project citing date issues. Lately, it was heard that the leggy beauty Nargis Fakhri would be cast for this much talked about role. However, Anthony was amused at the tittle-tattle regarding the role and denied them as sheer rumors.

He said the film is still at the scripting stage and nothing had been finalized as of now. “These are all plain rumors. If the role demands we might even cast her,” Anthony said adding the cast would be known by the end of this month. The shooting for the film will begin in August.

It is known that Emraaan Hashmi will play the former skipper and Prachi Desai would play his first wife. The serial kisser of Bollywood is preparing hard for the role and is already taking lessons to perfect his cricketing strokes.

Azharuddin has also been attending the training sessions and has given his bat for practicing. The actor and the cricketer felt that using the same bat for shooting the film will look more authentic. The bat will be returned to Azharuddin after the shoot, as the cricketer is very attached to his belonging with which he has played several games for the country, a source revealed.

Regarding the looks of the cast in the film, the director refused to disclose any thing saying it was too early to comment on the looks of the stars.

The film is being produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures.
