‘Azhar’ motion poster: Emraan speaks about match-fixing scandal

The makers of upcoming film ‘Azhar’ have unveiled the motion poster of the film. Emraan Hashmi who essays the titular role of former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin in the latter’s biopic took to Twitter to share the motion poster.

“The journey of #Azhar begins! Here’s the official #AzharPoster.. Wish us luck!!” he posted on the micro-blogging site.

The nearly half-a-minute video clip features the dressing room with blue team jerseys of former cricketers and Azhar’s team mates like Javagal Srinath, Ajay Jadeja, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Nayan Mongia and others. Emraan as Azhar is seen sitting alone holding a bat and a bag of cash laid in front of him.

In the backdrop, Emraan’s voice can be heard saying that he has been accused of match-fixing. Interestingly, some of the cricketers’ jerseys displayed were also accused in the scandal along with Azhar.

The biographical drama comes with a tagline, ‘Love Him. Hate Him. Judge Him.’

Directed by Tony D’Souza, ‘Azhar’ also stars Prachi Desai in the role of the cricketer’s first wife Naureen, Nargis Fakhri as former model-actress Sangeeta Bijlani, the cricketer’s estranged second wife. ‘Big Boss 8’ winner Gautam Gulati will be seen playing former cricketer-turned-commentator and current coach of team India, Ravi Shastri, while Lara Dutta is also a part of the cast.

Produced by Ekta Kapoors Balaji Motion Pictures, the movie will dwell on every aspect of Azhar’s life including his marriages, divorce and the infamous match-fixing scandal.

‘Azhar’ is slated to hit theatres on May 13.
