Athiya Shetty: I had a boyfriend when I was 18

Bollywood newbies Athiya Shetty and Sooraj Pancholi who are set to rock the silver screen with their debut film ‘Hero’ may have signed a no-dating clause, but Athiya has had a boyfriend in the past.

“I have had a boyfriend in the past when I was around 18. I am not the type of person to ever have flings. I would not invest my time and energy in a person when I know it is not going to work out,” the actress told The Times of India in an interview.

Speaking about her first break in Bollywood, Athiya said she had nurtured the dream of becoming an actress but kept it hidden, even though her father Suniel Shetty was never against it. “I don't know why I never told him or showed any interest to him,” she said, adding she revealed it at Heathrow Airport while returning from after visiting some colleges there.

“I was just looking out for film and theatre while visiting colleges. I was upset and my mom noticed it and I told her that I wanted to be an actress. My dad was very supportive,” she said.

Athiya went to New York Film Academy and returned after a year and signed Salman Khan’s production ‘Hero’.

About her co-star in the film, she said, “Sooraj is extremely emotional, has a huge heart and wears his heart on his sleeve.”

‘Hero’ which is a remake of Subhash Ghai’s 1983 blockbuster of the same name, has been directed by Nikhil Advani and also features Govinda, Vinod Khanna and Sharad Kelkar. Co-produced by Salman Khan Films and Mukta Arts, ‘Hero’ is slated to hit screens on September 25.
