Asha Parekh, Farah Khan, Boman Irani at Shammiji’s funeral

Veteran actress and fun-loving actress Shammi passed away on Tuesday morning at her residence. She was 89. Her last rites was performed by her adopted son, Iqbal Rizvi.  Close friends from the entertainment world including veteran actress Asha Parekh, Farida Jalal and Anju Mahendru attended her funeral. Farah Khan, Boman Irani, Annu Kapoor and Sushant Singh were also spotted at Mumbai's Oshiwara cemetery. 

Asha Parekh, who was very close to actress Shammi, was inconsolable at her funeral. "I haven't wept so much since I lost my parents. I called her Shammi Aunty. She was much older than me. But we were best friends for years. She shared everything with me. It was a natural-born trait in her to win people's confidence," she told IANS.

Annu Kapoor was quoted as saying in an interview to The Indian Express, “Shammi Aunty was a very positive person in spite of suffering several setbacks in her personal and professional life. She always smiled”.

Priya Dutt wrote on Twitter, “Shammi, aunty to me and a great actor of yesteryears passed away today. She was my mother's dear friend and someone we all loved very much. May her soul rest in peace and her laughter and contagious smile rock the heavens. Be In peace with your friends”.

Big B shared a nostalgic post along with Shammi Aunty's photographs and wrote: "Prayers and fond remembrances for Shammi Aunty... so dear to us as family... lost to us today..," while Rishi Kapoor tweeted: "R I P. Shammi Aunty bids good bye."

"Shammi Aunty passes away and leaves behind a huge void in my life. I don't know what how and where my life would be without her. Goodbye Shammi aunty," Shekhar Suman tweeted.

"I remember Shammi aunty playing my mother-in-law in 'Dekh Bhai Dekh'. Oh we had so much fun. 'Tere moonh me keede tere moonh mein dhool'. Love you. Will miss you forever," he added.
