Anupam Kher appointed ambassador for UN gender equality campaign

Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has been appointed the ambassador of United Nations gender equality campaign ‘He For She’.

In an official UN ceremony held on Tuesday, August 18, Anupam Kher was pinned ambassador of ‘He For She’ voice for gender equality.

The ‘Baby’ actor took to Twitter to share the news. “Proud to share that @UN_Women honored me by making me Champion of Gender Equality and was pinned for @HeforShe at @UN,” he wrote. He also shared a few pictures and thanked for the honour.

“Thank you for the Honour and the Responsibility. Shall try my best to work towards Gender Equality worldwide.:),” the actor tweeted. 

Expressing his views, Anupam Kher said, “I come from a family that was very poor, but I was taught by my grandparents that men and women are equal. Domestic violence comes from a deep sentiment of superiority by men. Change for gender equality has to start at home, in the family.”

“I pledge to respond to each of my followers who sign up to #HeForShe,” the 60-year-old actor was quoted as saying.

‘He For She’ is a solidarity movement for gender equality that aims to engage men of the society as agents of change and encouraging them to take action against the gender disparities faced by women. The campaign has been initiated by UN Women, the organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
