Antara Mali finally breaks her silence about her father
Noted Bollywood photographer and father of Bollywood actress Antara Mali, Jagdish Mali was found in a very pathetic condition on the streets of Mumbai. He was spotted and recognized by model and actress Mink Brar and she rescued Jagdish with the help of Salman Khan’s four men. Mink escorted him to his house. Since then Jagdish Mali’s daughter Antara Mali was tried to contact and finally she was found and hence some details about Jagdish Mali’s condition is known. Antara vehemently denied the report that her father was dethroned and he was addicted to alcohol.
She throws light on her
father’s health. "His condition is such that at times, if he forgets his
insulin shot, he gets disoriented. At such times opening a simple door latch
can be a challenge. This may happen once in six months, the rest of the time
he's fully functioning and normal. This is what happened that evening."
Antara says her father is not mentally ill and is living in a flat she bought
for him in Versova in 2009 'as per his wishes'. She also wonders why 'rank
strangers and rival photographers' are speaking so authoritatively about her
father. She says angrily, "This may be a publicity stunt by someone trying
to capitalise on his ill health and has accomplished nothing but damage a
35-year-old glorious career. My dad is not an alcoholic
but has a chronic liver disorder along with heavy diabetes. He hasn't touched a
drop of alcohol for 15 years. He is sober." He had been diagnosed with
liver problem in 1998, but fought back.
"My parents split when I was one-year old and I haven't lived with my
father since. He is a creative spirit and has always cherished his
independence," she says to implication that she may have abandoned him.
Antara also claims that she was
constantly in touch with her father and the entire family was by his side when
he was admitted to the hospital two months ago, till he was discharged and
taken home. "My dad and I are in constant touch. In fact, we lost a family
member last week and he was there to grieve with us," she says.
Anatara strongly reacted against all the appeals for help and gestures of
empathy following the incident. "We don't need anybody's help. I am proud
of my father's legacy, he is a truly incredible artist
and has a lot of goodwill in the film and fashion industry”.
