‘Andaz Apna Apna’ remake to roll soon, but with fresh cast

Aamir Khan and Salman Khan starrer cult classic ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ will finally have a remake. Phantom Films has acquired the remake rights of the original from Preeti Sinha, daughter of producer Vinay Sinha.

The remake will be directed by either Vikas Bahl or Vikramaditya Motwane, co-owners of Phantom Films along with Anurag Kashyap and Madhu Mantena.

The 1994 original film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi was a comic caper with an ensemble cast of Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor, Shehzad Khan, Viju Khote and Javed Khan with cameo appearances by Govinda and Juhi Chawla. Mehmood, Jagdeep and Deven Verma also appeared in minor but pivotal roles.

There were rumours that Aamir and Salman, now in their 50s, will reprise their roles for the remake. But latest reports suggest that the remake will have fresh cast and will roll by the end of this year.

A source close to the development was quoted as saying, “It will be an in-house director at the helm, if not Vikas (director of ‘Queen’ and ‘Shaandaar’), it will be Vikram (Vikramaditya Motwane of ‘Udaan’ and ‘Lootera’ fame)."

The source further said, “The script is locked. It has been developed by Vivek Soni and Hardik Mehta who won a National Award this year for his non-feature film on kite flying in Ahmedabad ‘Amdavad Ma Famous’, under the creative supervision of Vikas. It's a super script and promises loads of fun."

Phantom Films, which recently won their battle against the censor board against the cuts for their production ‘Udta Punjab’ is yet to make the official announcement.
