Amitabh honoured with Yash Chopra Memorial Award


Megastar Amitabh Bachchan honoured with Yash Chopra Memorial Award. Celebrities like Jaya Prada, former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin, Pamela Chopra, Simi Garewal graced the occasion. Maharashtra Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao handed over the award to Big B. Last year, the Yash Chopra Memorial award, was conferred to Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar.

"I don't think I deserve this much appreciation, but I am still trying to give my best and will continue to do so in the coming years with all your love and support," said Amitabh Bachchan on receiving the award.

Celebrities like Pamela Chopra, Simi Garewal, Jaya Prada, Madhoo, Gulshan Grover, Elli Avram, Manish Paul, Mouli Ganguly, Mazhar Sayyed, Digangana Suryavanshi, Ayub Khan, Mohammad Azharuddin, Karan Grover and Tina Dutt among others graced the ceremony.

The humbled actor took to twitter to express his heart, “Honoured humbled and grateful for the Yash Chopra Memorial Award tonight ... such a nostalgic moment and so much grace accorded!

“The award Yash Chopra Memorial 2014 .. such a humbling moment ... each paying accolades ... so embarrassing to sit there and watch”, Big B, who will next be seen in Piku and Shamitabh next year added further.

Big B has a long association with the late filmmaker Yash Chopra and has worked in his films including ‘Silsila’, ‘Kabhi Kabhi’, ‘Deewar’, ‘Kaala Patthar’, ‘Trishul’ among many others.

"With Yashji I had a family relationship and I believe that I still have that. I always felt that he is not only a great filmmaker but also an elder brother to me.

"The other family members of his family too treat me like a family and for that I just can't only give credit to Yashji, Pamelaji (Chopra's wife) too was instrumental in this," Bachchan said after receiving the honour.

"I started my work with Yashji on a small romantic story, which he was producing and someone else was directing. After 10-12 days Salim-Javed (scriptwriters) came to me with the script of Deewar and I liked it instantly.

"And Salim-Javed wanted Yashji to direct it. I requested Yashji to listen to the script. And when he heard the story of Deewar, he immediately said, 'yes'. So, we immediately started working on Deewar," Bachchan said.

Walking down the memory lane, Big B said, "Yashji used to work with his elder brother B R Chopra. He started off with a small room at Rajkamal studio and now Yash Raj studio is one of the well known production houses and this job was not an easy thing to do," he said.

Bachchan said Chopra's films relates to life.

"If you watch an Yash Chopra film you will realise that every film of him is very relatable with the real life. His films were full of life's aesthetic values," he said.
