Amitabh Bachchan’s woes with the Income Tax Department

The Income Tax department has been taking a special interest in the earnings of Amitabh Bachchan. Earlier too he was sent notices by the department several times. Even when Amitabh was ill, the Income Tax (IT) department was seen hounding the then sick actor even at the hospital. Now a new notice has been sent to the actor by the IT department, after newspapers in the city reported that Amitabh was wearing a Rs 2 lakhs 70 thousand sunglasses for his film Zamanat. According to media reports this is the fourth notice sent by IT officials to the actor.
There has been much speculation by the media about the sunglasses worn by Amitabh for his soon to be released film Zamanat; also IT officials had sent him a notice asking him about the sunglasses, details about his home Jalsa which he has already previously provided and also about clothes and accessories purchased by the actor. Finally Amitabh Bachchan who has always maintained a dignified silence and co-operated with all official inquires wrote a letter to the head of the IT department. In the letter Amitabh has clearly refuted the claims that his glasses could cost the price that the media has been speculating. He also mentioned in the letter that he thought it was completely ridiculous that IT officials would even go to the extent of asking about his wardrobe.

Amitabh also lambasted the media for making wild and baseless speculations. He also claimed that the media should not interfere in his personal life to this extent that he should feel like a slave in his own democratic country. It has been reported that Jaya Bachchan too received several notices from the IT officials. Some fans of the actor have also begun to protest against the IT department for sending a notice to their superstar simply for wearing expensive sunglasses. They too have donned sunglasses and hold placards of high prices and have challenged the IT officials to send them a notice.

Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh and family friend of the Bachchan family claimed that the Congress was trying their level best to malign Amitabh and termed it as ‘ridiculous behaviour by them’. However an official from the Congress party stated that the Congress had nothing to do with the issue pertaining to Amitabh being sent a notice by IT officials and that it was becoming like an incessant habit to blame the Congress for all issues. In the film industry many other actors and actresses like Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor are being scanned by the IT department to check the actual amount of money that they make in a year.
