Amitabh Bachchan receives ANR Award


December 27th saw the honoring of the legendary actor in the history of Indian Filmdom. Amitabh Bachchan was awarded Akkineni Nageshwar Rao (ANR) National Award of 2014 in Hyderabad. The ANR award is instituted by Akkineni International Foundation that was founded by ANR to collect funds for students who are unable to meet their educational expenses, along with providing aid to the disabled people. The ANR award honors the artists whose contribution has had a marked influence on the cultural, artistic and commercial aspects of the filmdom.

At the special occasion, was present Chandrasekhar Rao- the Chief Minister of Telangana, accompanied by Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu. The megastar was elated to receive the prestigious award, and expressed his deep respects for ANR, “It is a privilege to be a part of this industry. It is stalwart like ANR who has given the film industry dignity, respectability and grace.” While the Chief Minster Rao spoke about his plans for the development of the film industry in Hyderabad. He said that his government is dedicated towards developing the industry. He further stated that he would invite all the prominent personalities of Telugu filmdom, to talk about the film industry in the region.

At the event, the members of ANR family and T. Subbarami Reddy- an industrialist and member of Rajya Sabha and many other eminent personalities of the Telugu film industry were also present. Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR)'s son Akkineni Nagarjuna too attended the grand ceremony. He showed his deep gratitude for Amitabh Bachchan, and said that the veteran actor had enhanced the value of the award by accepting it, “It is a moment of great pride for entire Akkineni family. By accepting the award Amitji has given the Award its fullest recognition and made it even more precious. Amitji graciousness has brought tremendous motivational significance, both symbolic and high degree of prestige for ANR Award.”

He further described how the ‘Shahenshah of Bollywood’ has blessed the filmdom with his commendable talent, and still continues to spread his magic, “With remarkable talent, a meticulous work ethics and a tremendous ability to reinvent himself, Amitabh Bachchan continues to enthrall us with his unforgettable impression in world cinema and in the hearts of millions of fans including ANR.”

The event featured a specially choreographed dance by the actress-cum-dancer Sobhana; she presented the dance ‘Dancing Drums’. The dance performance was followed by 50 children, who danced to a song from ‘Manam’- the last film of ANR.
