Amitabh Bachchan prays for Shashi Kapoor


Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has prayed for the speedy recovery of former co-star Shashi Kapoor.  Big B wrote on Twitter, "May the Almighty be by the side of one that has been ill in Hospital for a few days and make him his usual self again ..!"  Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor have acted in a total of 12 films together and some of them went on to become Bollywood classics. Some of their famous films are- ‘Deewar’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Namak Halaal’, ‘Silsila’ and ‘Shaan’.  Even though he is totally retired from films since 1998, Shashi Kapoor has maintained a cordial relationship with most of his co-stars including Big B.

The 76 year old actor was admitted on 21st September at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital after he complained of breathlessness and severe cough. He was diagnosed with chest infection. Dr Ram Narain, executive director of the hospital had said, "Mr Kapoor, although in the ICU, is stable and is on antibiotics. He has been diagnosed with chest infection." Since then his condition has improved and he is likely to be discharged from the hospital soon. A source from the hospital has reported, "He is stable and he will be discharged in a day or two."

The actor’s son Kunal Kapoor also shared similar news, "He is recovering and he is stable right now." The veteran actor has been fighting declining health in recent years. Last year in November, his son Kunal Kapoor had described his health condition to the media, "He has had a lot of medical complications. He had a bypass, a couple of strokes, he is on dialysis, he has been through a lot. We have a good nursing staff. He is being well looked after." 

In a career spanning three decades, Shashi Kapoor has acted in 160 Bollywood and international films. He has also directed and produced several films. During his career, Shashi Kapoor was popular for both his charming looks as well as his acting skills. He is the recipient of the prestigious ‘Padma Bhusan’ award. He also won three national awards and four Filmfare awards (including a lifetime achievement award). In 2013, Walk of the Stars took initiative to preserve his hand prints at the Bandra Bandstand.  His son Kunal Kapoor unveiled it on his behalf. His other two children are- actor model Karan Kapoor, and theater personality Sanjana Kapoor. His wife, British actress Jennifer Kendal passed away in 1984.
