Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya celebrate 44 years of togetherness

Bollywood’s iconic couple Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan completes 44 years of happy married life. Celebrating the occasions, Big B took to Twitter and wrote#“June 3, 1973 .. 44 years of marriage .. thank you all for the wishes you send .. grateful and filled with love”.

The ‘Piku’ actor went down the memory lane and wrote on his blog about the D-day when he got married to Jaya, “and as I set out from ‘Mangal’ a rented house of mine in JVPD scheme, 7th Road .. in my newly acquired second hand Pontiac Sports, 2 door, with Ma and Babuji with me .. my driver Nagesh, now passed away, insisting on driving me to an apartment of Jaya’s family friend at Malabar Hill .. on the 3rd of June 1973, a few drops of rain began to fall .. our neighbour ran out of their house and excitedly screamed to us .. ‘hurry to the wedding, its raining, a good omen. ...Its been 44 years since ..”

It was a hush-hush wedding for Big B and Jaya. It was pre-planned that if ‘Zanjeer’ does well then Amitabh, Jaya and few other friends would go for a vacation in London but Amitabh’s father Harivansh Rai Bachchan wanted them to get married before they leave for vacation. "'Zanjeer' had just released. And Jaya and I and a few dear friends had decided that if the film did well we would all go to London for a holiday. After a few anxious days on the results of the box office, it was time to put our decision 'in line'. Big B recalls.

"So I told my parents, who I had now invited to come and live with me, as is the culture in our land, about our decision. And my Father came down heavily on me - 'If you are planning a holiday with this girl, you will have to marry her and go, else your decision is denied.'

"I was an obedient child! I got married the very next day in a quickly organized wedding with family and some dear friends, without any fanfare, and left for the holiday that very night," he further posted.

His marriage was a small affair with handful of close ones, "Marriages and weddings entail great amount of ritual and protocol and decorum and priests and pundits and maulvis. They last for days with great fanfare. Ours was a simple Bengali pundit wedding, exchange of flowered garlands, the mangal sutra, the sindoor and it was all over before the women from Jaya's side could stop their finger in mouth screams of 'odododooooo' ... or words to that effect," he added.

As the couple completes their 44 years of blissful marriage, wishes are pouring from every corner.

Well, wishing Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan a happy married life forever and ever.
