Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek to face trial for insulting national flag

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek have to face a trial in a Ghaziabad court where a case has been filed against them for allegedly insulting the national Tricolour.

A complaint was made by one Chetan Dhiman who said both the actors were seen covering their bodies with the national flag in an insulting manner, following which a case was registered before the judicial magistrate's court in Ghaziabad.

The complainant said the actors were seen covering their bodies with the Tricolour during the India-Pakistan World Cup cricket match in Adelaide on February 15.

Dhiman's lawyer Sanjeev Sharma said his client and five of his friends had seen the ‘Paa’ actors wearing the national flag in an insulting manner.

Advocate Sharma said that by such an act, the internationally acclaimed cine star and his son had shown disrespect to the country and downgraded India's reputation.

He said the act of the much respected actors was covered under ‘The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971’, and the ‘Flag Code of India, 2002’, and both of them should be summoned before the court to face trial.

In the said match India defeated Pakistan but eventually lost to Australia in the semi-finals, who ultimately lifted the champion’s trophy.
