Ameesha Patel plans on a Desi look for Cannes

As the Cannes Internation Film Festival draws near, stars are busy getting their wardrobes in order. Since the festival is celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema this year, Indian stars are taking special care for the Red carpet event. Ameesha Patel is one of the Indian stars who is now preparing for the maiden visit to the Cannes Film Festival. It is now known that the actress has decided to sport a completelydesi look as she visits the festival in Cannes.

The 37 years old actress has appeared in the film Shortcut Romeo directed by Sushi Ganesh whose cast also includes Neil Nitin Mukesh and Puja Gupta. This film is slated to premier at the Cannes Film Festival on 22nd May. Ameesha will be attending the premier.

The actress has already consulted with good friend and designer Manish Malhotra about the purely desi look she plans on flaunting at t he festival. "It is a huge honour for me to be representing our cinema at Cannes. I am not going there as a brand ambassador. I am going there for my movie and that is a big deal. Manish and I have decided that since I am representing the country on a global platform, it would be perfect to be dressed in something that's truly desi. Nothing looks better on an Indian woman than a sari or lehenga. I have to walk the red carpet in the morning and the premiere is at night, so there will be two outfits," said Ameesha who has appeared in hits likeKaho naa…. Pyar hai and Gadar – ek prem katha.

Manish Malhotra is known for designing the best possible ensemble that perfectly compliments the look of the person. Talking about the final dress for Ameesha for this red carpet event, he said, "Keeping in mind Ameesha's complexion and personality, we have given her something very Indian, yet red-carpetish. Black and white, being classic colours, have been incorporated in her outfit that is high on Kashmiri and Chikankari work. We have also kept in mind the summer trends internationally."

The desi fashion seems to be a hit among the Indian actresses this year at Cannes. According to reports, Vidya Balan will be wearing a sari by Sabyasachi Mukherjee; Aishwariya Rai will sport an off white sari with gold and chikankari work by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and Sonam Kapoor will also appear in an Indian outfit at least once.
