Amala Paul-A L Vijay divorce: Director hints at breach of trust

Tamil filmmaker AL Vijay and actress Amala Paul’s divorce news, after being married for two years shocked the film fraternity. There were several speculations surrounding the reason for their separation and rumours suggesting that Vijay’s family didn’t want Amala to work post marriage.

Putting an end to all speculations and rumours, Vijay issued a statement on Wednesday, August 3, claiming that though the news of them getting divorced is true, the reason for the separation is unknown to anyone.

"I have been reading plenty of news on the separation of me and Amala based on random assumptions and false information. I would like to make it clear that the only truth in that is the separation and rest all is untrue. The reason behind the separation is unknown to anyone but me," Vijay said in the statement.

Vijay also refuted the rumours that his family doesn’t support Amala’s decision to continue with her career. "When Amala wanted to continue her career in films, I supported her to the best of my ability. And she continued acting even after marriage. The new found accusation that I or my family was stopping her from work is completely untrue," he added.

He, however, hinted about a breach of trust in their marital relationship and stated, "The base for any marital relationship is honesty and trust and when that is breached the very existence of committed relationship becomes meaningless."

Vijay also says that he is left with no other choice than divorce even though he never thought his relationship will Amala would end this way. “I really value the institution of marriage and relationship a lot. With lots of pain in my heart, I have decided to move on in life in a dignified manner,” the statement read.

Vijay and Amala tied the knot in a star-studded Hindu wedding ceremony in Chennai in June, 2014 after dating for almost three years.
