Alia Bhatt harbours Hollywood dreams

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who is currently enjoying in the success of her latest film ‘Udta Punjab’, has said that she wants to try her hand at Hollywood films. However, Alia is in no rush and said that she also wants to do South-Indian, Pakistani and even Nigerian films.

"Definitely Hollywood is something - a destination that you really reach after, maybe a couple of years after kind of finding your feet in Indian cinema, in Bollywood," Alia told Reuters in an interview. "I'm going to step into it maybe a little slower, but definitely I have plans," she added.

Alia said that that she admires the work of Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence and would want to do movies like that of hers.

“Jennifer Lawrence is somebody I really look up to because I really like the kind of choices she makes. She'll do ‘The Hunger Games’, but then she'll also do ‘Silver Linings Playbook’. So I probably want to start with like a ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, something more where there's more scope for performance, you know, because I feel like that's where I'll really learn," Alia said.

The 23-year-old actress who debuted with Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year’ has starred in films like ‘Highway’, ‘2 States’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya’, ‘Shaandar’ and ‘Kapoor & Sons’ in a span of four years in the industry. She was last seen in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful ‘Udta Punjab’ which explores the drug menace in the north Indian state of Punjab.  

Alia also expressed her interest in starring in shows for platforms such as Netflix which is known for its variety of content and global accessibility.

Many Bollywood actors have already appeared in films in the west, like Irrfan Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri and Aishwarya Rai. Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone will also be seen in upcoming films ‘Baywatch’ and ‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage’, respectively.

Daughter of renowned filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, Alia’s upcoming Bollywood films include ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ and ‘Dear Zindagi’ which also stars Shah Rukh Khan of whom she is a great fan.
